How To Use This Calculator
First, choose the type of PVC pipe you’d like to look up (Schedule 40, 80, or 120).
Then, choose the nominal size of the pipe in question and hit calculate to get it’s characteristics.
Note that nominal size is only loosely based on the actual inside diameter of the PVC pipe. It is basically just used as an identifier.
What Does Schedule 40/80/120 Mean?
Schedule is another term for pipe wall thickness. The higher the Schedule, the thicker the wall of the pipe. The Schedule system was created in 1927 and is used on many different types of piping aside from PVC.
No matter what Schedule PVC pipe you have, the outside diameters of two same nominal size pipes will be the same. For example, a Schedule 40, 80, and 120 1″ nominal pipe all have an outside diameter of 1.315″.

Schedule 80 and 120 PVC piping is most often used in commercial and industrial applications where high strength and pressure rating are required.
